IN-HOME NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS are held in the comfort of your own home and document those precious moments of your newborn. Capturing all the natural poses of your baby, all the little details, and the connection and love of your baby with your family. Lifestyle family photos are usually taken in the nursery, master bedroom and the living room depending on where the best lighting is. There is also a posed portion for baby that includes a small studio setup, along with props, outfits, headbands and hats to photograph all those sweet details and expressions. I bring everything to you, so you don't have to worry about leaving the house.

Before your session

As your photographer, my goal is to provide you with a stress-free experience. I'll handle planning the details. I'll help with styling and send a prep guide with tips for your in-home newborn session.

Once you've reached out to book and paid your retainer, I'll schedule in your due date. You'll reach out to me within 3 days of your baby's birth to schedule the actual date of the session. Babies are usually photographed when they are 10-21 days old, but older is fine.

DURING your session

Expect your newborn session to be easy and relaxed. The days and weeks following a birth can be a whirlwind of activity and emotions - so think of your newborn session as a time to slow down and savor some quiet moments with your new baby.

Sessions are relaxed and very much baby-led. So we take breaks for feeding or diaper changes. I usually start with family photos, then siblings (if there are any so they can go and play), then mom and dad individually with baby. I will set up a small studio with lighting and props to do the posed portion of baby.

After your session

I know you will be excited to see your images after your session, so you will receive a sneak peek within 48 hours after your session is complete. Your gallery will be ready to view within 2 weeks, at which time you can download your images and order any prints or products.

3. What is the ideal age for newborn photos?

The ideal time to book your newborn session is during your second trimester of pregnancy. I only book a certain number of newborns a month, so booking earlier can insure I have availability. This also means one less thing to worry about as your due date approaches, as I know you will be busy preparing for the arrival of your sweet baby. It is also better to book earlier if you need a payment plan, so payments can be more spread out. I also get many last minute bookings, too, so you can still reach out after your baby is born.

Yes, I provide props for the posed portion of the session. I have buckets, baskets, beds, bowls, a posing bed, along with a wide variety of colors of backdrops, outfits, wraps, headbands, hats and even a few outfits for baby during the family portion.

Every photographer is different on what age they prefer to photograph newborns. I like to schedule them when baby is between 10 to 21 days old. They are usually still quite squishy and posable and tend to be more sleepy. But I do photograph older babies, especially if they were preemies and had NICU time. Older babies may be more awake and not go into the poses as easily as a younger baby, but sometimes even 4 week old babies sleep and do just as well as a 2 week old baby. Older babies may only be wrapped images if they are more awake.
